Voices of Pike began in 2018 as an annual poetry contest meant to encourage Pike County's youth to express themselves through creative writing, to think critically about the world around them, and to inspire unity and progress. Each year, the contest centers a Kentuckian of note and uses a quote of theirs as the prompt. Examples include bell hooks, Anne Braden, and Crystal Wilkinson.

The contest is open to all Pike County/Pikeville students grades K-12, including homeschooled students. There is also an adult category, making this contest open to ALL Pike Countians.
