Artists Collaborative Theatre (ACT) is located in the beautiful Appalachian mountains of Eastern Kentucky in Elkhorn City, the gateway city to Breaks Interstate Park. The theatre is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, and is the most awarded community theatre in Kentucky, having won state, regional, and national awards. ACT also features a free educational program serving over fifty children per semester along with educational outreach.

ACT built its company focusing on quality productions and local talent, both of which were certainly present during their first show in July 2002, The Kentucky Cycle, as well as every show they have hosted since.

In 2008, after being awarded with Coal Severance Tax funds to build a $400,000 black box style theatre, the new facility opened to feature a year round, balanced season of six productions per year with sixteen performances per production. Based on the gospels of Matthew and John, this reverential jubilee re-imagines the story of Jesus—set in modern-day rural Georgia! Born in Gainesville and laid in an apple crate, Jesus was baptized in the Chattahoochee River, preached to a crowd of thousands on Stone Mountain, and met his end in Atlanta. In between, he found followers, cynics, and an institutionalized conservative Church that rejected his simple message of love and compassion.

Set to live bluegrass music, “The Greatest Story Ever Retold” will have you tapping your toes and shouting “Hallellujah!”
